EUROFER REACH Expert WG

Mission:

Background: for registration purposes, organisations representing amongst others Mo, Cr, Ni are gathering exposure data via consultants. Due to the fact that the delivered data do differ a lot in quality and quantity depending on the steel sectors (Stainless, integrated route, recycling route), it was agreed to establish a EUROFER REACH Expert Working Group to amongst others review the provided emission data for the Environment and Health. The validation of users description (R12 annex) for the steel sector will also be selected in this expert group. This group will built on the experience built previously for the compulsory Risk Assessment on nickel, borates, zinc and hexavalent chromium.

Composition of the EUROFER REACH Expert Working Group: volunteering experts from the Eurofer Clusters.

Confidentiality agreement: for the discussion of the emission data provided by our companies (companies will be codified), all members of theEUROFER REACH Expert Working Group will need to sign a confidentiality agreement. Basic principle being that the information shared and discussed in the EUROFER REACH Expert Working Group cannot be transferred outside the expert group nor be used for any other purposes.

On invitation, the EUROFER REACH Expert Working Group can be extended with external people (e.g. representatives from steel related substances that are critical and their consultants) to further discuss and agree on the interpretation of the data, the scientific approach. If not done yet, these external people will also need to sign the confidentiality agreement.

Next to the review of the provided emission data, the EUROFER REACH Expert Working Group will also discuss:

  • the steel related substances that are critical (e.g. Mo, Ni, Mn);
  • the strategy to be followed for these critical steel related substances;

The EUROFER REACH Expert Working Group has a pure advisory role towards the Eurofer REACH Cluster WG, who will take the decisions.
